Armoring styles:
Armoring of a SUV can be done in different ways. Here several configurations are described for a Armored Civilian Vehicle:
Configuration 1:
Armoring of the Passenger Cell only on a Armored Civilian Vehicle, including an armored bulkhead located behind the rear seats of the vehicle.
The advantages of this model are: Less added weight and protection of passengers is maintained even with the cargo hatch open. (Escape exit installed in Bulkhead wall).
Configuration 2:
Armoring of the passenger cell and cargo compartment including armoring of the rear cargo doors/lift gate.
The advantages of this model are: Cargo space is armored; back door/lift gate can be used as exit. Disadvantage: Added weight of armor material behind rear axle and in general.
Configuration 3:
Armoring of the Engine compartment & Passenger cell.
This configuration is not recommended due to the fact too much weight will have to be added to the front of the vehicle.
Each configuration for a Armored Civilian Vehicle can be finished as a “Utility” or “OEM” Style.
Utility style means interior of the vehicle is put back together in a functional way, but different from the OEM materials and shapes. If the vehicle is used in the field as a “tool” this configuration is preferred as to often more delicate OEM materials.
OEM style means the interior of the vehicle is brought back to it OEM appearance, or as close as possible.
Luxury configuration is also available and mainly used for VIP vehicles.
All Armored Civilian Vehicle configurations maintain the exterior OEM look and blend in to the traffic with regular vehicles.
Armoring specifications:
Transparent armor: Only ballistic glass manufactured by leading manufacturers of ballistic transparencies is used in armored vehicles.
Opaque armor: High strength steel, ballistic aluminium, composites and ceramics used in the manufacture of opaque armor are always of the highest quality, to meet or exceed established norms.
Firewall (wall between engine and passenger compartment): Every vehicle armored is protected at the firewall and is overlapped at the windshield.
Doors: Due to the added weight of the transparent and opaque armor in doors, we reinforces the door hinges using a proprietary system to completely avoid hinge failure and prevent sheet metal fatigue around the hinge system.
Roof: The ceiling's opaque armor is covered with a custom made headliner that replicates the original vehicle interior with its fit and finish.
Bulkhead: On certain armored SUVs, clients may select a "Bulkhead wall" with a ballistic window behind the rear seats. This wall provides superior protection to the passengers when the rear hatch/ lift gate is opened. In addition, a ventilation overpressure system may be installed to provide filtered air in the event of a chemical attack.
Floor: The floor is protected by opaque armor of High Strength Steel or Composite materials that meet the vertical opaque armor. This affords significant protection against anti personnel grenades detonated underneath or next to the vehicle.
